A giant thank you to all of the wonderful students, parents and staff who have helped make the Library Media Center such an awesome place to be this year!  We hosted a book swap, a book fair (An extra big thank you to my volunteers who filled in for me!!), two authors and found great books we loved to read, friends to share and chat with, we colored and painted, built structures and mazes, dreamed and laughed and imagined. Enjoy a summer filled with new adventures, time to relax and some great reading!

Keep a list of what you have read, bring it to me at the start of school and I will have a special treat for you.

Our stats!

posted Oct 6, 2016, 8:02 AM by Mary Richardson   [ updated Mar 22, 2017, 5:57 PM ]

Our new school year is off to an awesome start!

We have already circulated over 2,000 books

and resources to students and staff!

Library classes in grades 1-4 have been working on the weekly routine: We begin each class by doing our “Library Restaurant Reading” which introduces new materials to students at their tables. At the beginning of each class students sit down and help themselves to something to read from the middle of the table (an appetizer). They can talk quietly and share with those at their table using quiet “restaurant” voices. When I am ready to start the lesson I say: “Make the cake” and the materials are stacked with the pencil box on top as the “frosting.”

Our lessons in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade will be all about our 10 Ladybug Book Award books until Thanksgiving. Students are listening to a story each week, discussing and recording their thoughts about the book on a special paper. They will use these papers to make an informed vote for their favorite the first week of December. Our votes will be tallied with the other student’s and a state-wide winner will be announced.

GENRE CHALLENGE: The 4th grade classes have been learning about the different GENRES (categories) of literature. I have challenged each of them to read and do a small project on a chapter book in each of the genres by April 1st. Those students who complete the challenge will earn a $10 gift certificate to the book fair in April. Last year I had 5 students earn their gift certificate but with the current enthusiasm I think we will have more earning this year.
