The Chester School District educational community would like to thank School Board member Maria Veale for her work in making our school a wonderful place to learn and grow.  As she leaves behind school board service, we wish her well in her new endeavors.

The following remarks were presented by Chairman Royal Richardson at the May School Board meeting with regard to the last meeting for school board member Maria Veale.

“Maria has been on the Board for two terms. When she joined the Board she was full of ideas and enthusiasm to both improve the Chester School District and to make Chester Academy a positive and nurturing place for the children of our community. That has not wavered over six years sitting at this table.

Maria has ably represented the Board on a number of committees and initiatives, ranging from cafeteria cuisine, to Health and Wellness, to instructional improvement. She has taken part in Labor Negotiations and has also participated in the Search and Selection committees for the current Superintendent and for our next Principal. Most importantly, she has consistently been the eyes and ears of the Board in the Chester Academy community through her involvement as a parent in various school activities.
As a colleague, she has offered her input and expertise to the Board members on any number of topics over the years. She has also offered counsel and advice: often to be patient and contemplative and sometimes impatience, when we need to just get on-with-it when an issue needed resolution.

As Chairman, I will certainly miss her input and her “sounding-board” on contentious issues and her meticulous edits of our Meeting Minutes. And, of course, the occasional snarky text message between meetings…
Maria and her family have certainly done much to benefit their community over the last several years through their participation and engagement. And Maria has directly contributed to the success of this Board during her tenure as a member of the Chester School Board.

Best wishes. “
