ATHLETICS
Student’s parents are
expected to provide transportation as necessary for
after school activities. Anyone interested in
participating in an interscholastic sports activity
(Grades 5 – 8) must have had a physical within the past
two years.
Important Notice to
all Parents who have a child participating in a sport at
school
Remember ~ If
bad weather is in the forecast a Scheduled game or
practice can be canceled. Keep you ears tuned to the
media for weather reports and call the school if you are
unsure. Have a plan in place for such occasions. This is
New England, and we all know how fickle the weather can
be. This is the price you pay for raising a future
sports star.
Chester Academy
Athletic Policies
The goal of
the athletic program is to establish self-discipline, to
learn socialization skills, to respect fair play through
interaction with team members, coaches and officials,
and to better develop physical skills.
Student athletes must
maintain acceptable academic requirements and display
proper citizenship and sportsmanship skills.
Since it is a
privilege to represent Chester in athletic competition,
it follows logically that the school has the
responsibility to revoke that privilege when the student
athlete does not conduct herself / himself in an
acceptable manner. Proper conduct is required of the
student not only on the athletic field, but also in the
school, community and during transport to and from
games.
Students must complete the season (including tournaments
and competitions) to be eligible for team or individual
awards. An athlete unable to participate because of
injury is still part of the team and eligible for all
awards. Awards could include items such as trophies,
jackets, and having their name on championship banners.
Students must not fail two subjects during a marking term.
Student-athletes who fail two subjects during a marking
term will be removed from the athletic team that they
were participating on, and are ineligible for any team
until they meet requirements for reinstatement. If a
student fails two subjects they can be reinstated to the
team and become eligible for the athletic program again
after midterm reports show all satisfactory or above
grades.
Student-athletes are responsible for replacement costs of all equipment
and uniforms issued to them. This includes shin-guards
and team uniforms and warm-ups. Student report cards
will be held until all athletic equipment has been
returned.
To be eligible to participate in Chester Academy athletics, every
athlete, upon being selected for a team must complete a
physical exam and have the record of such exam on file
with the school nurse dated within the last two years.
If the record of the physical is not on file with the
school nurse the athlete may not practice or play until
this requirement is met.
An athlete can not participate in school sports or practice unless they
are present in school on that day. If an event is
scheduled for Saturday, the athlete must be present the
Friday before the game. If a violation becomes known at
a later date, it will be enforced at the next practice
or game following the disclosure with possible
additional penalties. Athletes who are absent from
classes for more than three hours are not allowed to
participate in any athletic activity that day. Special
requests, from parents regarding dismissals from school
or late arrivals must be requested in advance from the
Athletic Director.
Any
athlete, who is disqualified from a game for exhibiting
unsportsmanlike conduct, shall not participate in the
next scheduled athletic event, including tournaments.
