IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW!

¡Bienvenidos, mis estudiantes y sus familias!

OVERVIEW  Spanish I at Chester Academy is a fun and exciting excursion into the study of Hispanic world culture with a healthy dose of basic vocabulary, daily practical conversation and Spanish grammar.  With supporting projects in visual art, music, video and food, our Spanish I students develop a strong foundation that supported by our strong Spanish II course, enables most students to enjoy an advanced Spanish course when they reach high school.  The following points are important to your student’s success:

STUDY HELPS & GRADING

STUDY 10-15 minutes each night – memorization is essential!

BE PREPARED!  DIME UNO textbook, notebook, pen/pencil, kwik

sheet, diccionario, dry erase markers – every day!!!

DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Handed in on time:    100%

1 day late:                     50%

2 days late:           0 to 50%

Any number is better than a zero!  Hand in your work!!!

Grade weights change each quarter.  During the first term, all students are encouraged to use all of their resources to support their knowledge during tests and quizzes (open book tests).  During the second term, self-reliance and memorization is supported by language games and projects.  Third and fourth terms see our Spanish I students relying on what they’ve learned in order to apply daily conversation (no resources).  They begin to THINK in Spanish!

NO TRANSLATION PROGRAMS MAY BE USED TO COMPLETE PROJECTS or HOMEWORK!  They can be easily spotted and often do not support the current lesson.  Use of these programs for classwork is considered cheating and will yield a call home and an in-school consequence. Translation programs are appropriate for enrichment, but please know that they often work only for vocabulary and don’t always accurately present correct grammar.  ¡Muchas gracias y buena suerte!
