Welcome to Madame Glynn’s Webpage!

Bonjour!!  Comment ca va?

In the school year of 2007 - 2008 I am teaching French I to our 7th graders.  We are learning French with the Parisian accent and using a textbook that lines up with Pinkerton Academy’s French program.  We are using the Discovering French Bleu book and will continue in the same book next year in French II.  This is a high school level textbook.

At the end of 8th grade and the successful completion of French II, my students will take a placement test from Pinkerton Academy to determine whether they will take first or second year French at Pinkerton.

During the year we will occasionally have guest speakers and volunteers come to visit our class in order to tell of their travels to French speaking countries and to share elements of French culture.  We also play learning games to practice grammar and vocabulary.

In general my grading for each quarter of 2006-2007 will break out as follows: Quizzes- 50%, Tests- 25%, French Art Projects- 5% and Homework- 20%.  In 2005-2006 we are bringing art instruction to our 7th graders through foreign language classes.  Monthly, my French I students receive direct instruction from Mrs. Krassowki, our Middle School Art Teacher.

How You Can Help Your Child to Study a Foreign Language

Each year many parents ask me how they can help their sons or daughters to study a foreign language that they as parents may not know.  Here are my tested suggestions:  Each evening ask your child to tell you what he or she learned in French class that day.  He or she will be pleased to demonstrate this new knowledge and will enjoy showing off with Mom and Dad serving as the students.  Also, as a quiz or test approaches (Always announced and also posted on HomeworkNOW), work through the student’s notebook or textbook and ask your child for the French translations of the English words.  You may not know whether they are being pronounced correctly, but you will know whether he or she knows the word.  You can also ask your child to spell the French word and to tell you if there are any written accents on it.  Enjoy this sharing opportunity!

I also teach Spanish II and French II to our 8th graders.
