Mrs. Bougie – World Geography and Language Arts
World Geography
Seventh-grade world geography seeks to build
upon the skills and knowledge developed in
sixth-grade world history. The Five Themes of
Geography – Place, Location, Region,
Human/Environment Interaction and Movement – are
the starting point for the year and serve as a
guiding outline for the year of study. Students
develop map skills and become knowledgeable of
the two major divisions of geography: human
geography and physical geography. Students
engage in major projects, including paper mache
globes and creating your own island country.
Geographical regional studies include the United
States and Canada, Africa, Latin America,
Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Language Arts
Seventh-grade language arts looks to build
upon the learned and developed skills students
have acquired through their first six years at
Chester Academy and other institutions of
learning. The goal in Writing Workshop is for
students to become more comfortable with the
whole writing process from brainstorming to the
final editing process. Reading requirements
include the KBAR (Kick Back and Read)
independent reading project, literature circles,
Class Novels and in-class oral readings. The
third term focuses on a term paper. Students are
responsible for generating topic ideas,
outlining, researching by using note cards, a
bibliography, generating a rough draft and then
editing and revising for the final copy.
Emphasizing good public speaking and listening
skills, the final step of the term paper will be
an oral presentation of its contents.
