Digital
Portfolios – All students are required by the State
of New Hampshire to keep a cumulative (K-8 and 9-12)
digital portfolio which demonstrates the integrated
use of technology in all content areas. The
portfolios will be evaluated before the students go
to Pinkerton Academy. If the students meet the
requirements they will be able to take a higher
level technology course at Pinkerton. They will
not receive a half credit from Pinkerton for
their work at Chester Academy. Students in middle
school have saved their files on their personal
drives. They will be reviewing the work and
deciding which files/artifacts should be part of
their digital portfolio. The students will create
an index page with hyperlinks to the files. The
index page will include a reflection of each
activity and the types of technology used. Students
in the elementary school save their work to a
personal folder which is stored in a class folder on
the public drive. Each student’s folder has been
moved from the previous class folder to the current
class folder. Students will begin creating index
pages in 3rd or 4th grade.

This
year the Technology Department installed Google
Earth onto all the lab computers. Google Earth has
maps and satellite images that you can search for by
the location. Students have enjoyed exploring their
neighborhood, the state and the globe. Seventh
graders in the technology class recently completed a
“where in the world” activity. Based on coordinates
that they type into the search field they were able
to “travel” from Chester Academy to Pearl Harbor,
the Alamo, Mt. McKinley, Red Square and the
Forbidden City. Other classes have looked at
landforms including mountains, forests and oceans.
Google Earth is an
incredible tool that can be used across the
curriculum from exploring geographic and historic
sites to literary settings, scientific landforms or
calculating distances between locations.
One exciting feature of
Google Earth is the ability to see photographs of
specific locations posted by users from around the
globe. Since much of the Google Earth exploration
begins from “Chester Academy” we will be posting
exterior photographs of Chester Academy onto the
website. These photographs will be available to
anyone using Google Earth who chooses to select the
link associated with the pictures. Watch for
pictures of the school, athletic field, playground
and butterfly garden coming soon! Cick

engine created by educators for students, parents,
educators and librarians. Chester Academy has
purchased a subscription to netTrekker for all
students. The search engine is available to the
students (and their families) at home as well as in
school. For more information please email Mrs.
Kessler.
