Art Curriculum Overview

          Art Education helps to develop life long skills of communication, expression, and critical thinking.  Through Art Education, students become move aware of visual art in all of their environments.  The art curriculum at Chester Academy is designed to give to students a solid foundation in art.

            Students will learn how to use materials in a safe and responsible manner.  Students will explore a wide range of media, including: craypas, pencils, markers, crayons, watercolors, and tempera paint.  They will also use a variety of sculptural materials such as clay and glazing, papier mache and plaster craft.

            Two and three-dimensional media will be experienced through drawing, painting, ceramics, collage, paper sculpting, graphic design and printmaking.

            Each grade will have at least two projects that integrate art history and artifacts of other cultures.  Artists will include: Paul Klee, Georgia O’Keefe, George Seurat, Pablo African, Ancient Greek and several Native American Tribes.

            Students in all grade levels are taught the elements of art and principles of design.  These include: shape, line, texture, value, color, emphasis, depth, pattern and repetition, balance and unity.

 

Art Events

 

            Art Club for grades 5 and 6 will meet Tuesday afternoons from 3:00- 4:00 p.m. with Mrs. Blanchette.  Students will explore a wide range of media and art processes, including – jewelry making, paper making, book making, oriental landscape painting, clay bisque tiles and a variety of seasonal projects. 

 

            Outstanding art students will be recognized at the student of the month assemblies.
