Eligibility Requirements for the Gifted
Program at Chester Academy.
The following criteria will be used to
determine a student’s eligibility for
the GOTCHA program.
Each of
these instruments should be examined and
evaluated with regard to each of the
three areas that we have identified:
Above Average Ability, Commitment to
Task, and Creativity.
- Teacher
Referral
Students are recommended for GOTCHA by
classroom teachers.
- Parent
Request
Parents who wish their child to be
considered for the GOTCHA program should
contact his or her classroom teacher
first. A Parent Questionnaire may be
required to provide further information.
-
Standardized Testing (Including
testing for giftedness, as well as
nationally-normed achievement
testing).
Chester Academy uses the S.A.G.E.S.-2
(Screening Assessment for Gifted
Elementary Students) in Language
Arts/Social Studies, Math/Science and
Reasoning. The T.O.M.A.G.S. (Test
of Mathematical Ability for Gifted
Students) may also be used for more
specific information in mathematics.
- Student
Portfolio of Work Samples
Students may be required to provide work
samples from home and/or school.
- Renzulli’s
Behavioral Scales for Rating
Superior Students
These scales will be completed by
teachers to assess students in three
areas: motivation, creativity and task
commitment
- Interest
Inventory for Student
Students may be asked to complete an
inventory of interests to assist in
designing appropriate curriculum.
